Coffee Methods

POUR OVER METHOD

INGREDIENTS

  • COFFEE
  • HOT WATER
  • FILTER PAPER

Let’s Prepare.

Step 1

Take some coffee beans (more than a tablespoon) and grind them with a coffee grinder or a traditional one at home, to a coarse powder. Make sure it should not be a finely powdered one.

Step 2

Clean your filter paper with some lukewarm water to remove the papery taste of the material.

Step 3

Heat your water. Bring them to a boil and let them sit for about 30-50 seconds. This gives you the perfect temperature for your coffee.

Step 5

Pouring the water over the coffee powder. Hold on! There is a way of doing it and that is what makes them special. There will be 3 pourings. First, take some water and pour it onto the powder in a concentric manner. Make sure all of the powder gets wet. Concentrically stir the concoction. Repeat this twice. Keep on stirring it until the whole coffee gets collected in the utensil and you are done with your beverage!! Get em sipping.

SYPHON METHOD

Wondering what it is? It’s not something that you might have witnessed because they are less common.  Not anymore. Having a peep into history, this is one of the oldest brewing methods and many people get curious upon having a watch over the method. But only the passionate and experimental ones try this at any cost!. They take you back to your chemistry labs but this time it’s less menacing and will not let you take your eyes over the concoction in the siphon. It’s a very involved process and produces amazing coffee at the end.

For this, you will need a siphon top part, siphon bottom part, coffee ground which is coarser than a filter paper and finer than a french press, filter cloth, and finally water.

Step 1

First, soak the cloth filter in warm water for 4-5 minutes and then hook it to the top of the siphon.

Step 2

Fill the bottom chamber of the syphon with 250mL hot water.

Step 3

Fix the top chamber into the bottom bulb. Make sure that it lies in an off-side manner.

Step4

Now set the bottom flask to heat and let all the water inside it nicely boil. Once you notice the water boiling, position the top chamber in a straight manner. Upon doing so you can notice the sudden rising of water vapors indicating that there is a pressure build-up that pulls the water upwards to the top chamber.

 Step 5

Wait for less than a minute after the pressure build-up takes place. Then lower the flame so that the glass does not break. After 1-2 minutes add the coffee powder through the mouth of the upper bulb and use a bamboo spoon to push down the coffee that is lying on top of the water.

Step 6

Wait for 1 minute and 15 seconds. After which turn off the flame and give the coffee a mix. Now there is no pressure build-up and vacuum sets in. The coffee sets to the bottom flask and a dome of coffee foam is formed on the top flask.

Now remove the top flask by giving it some wiggles. Let the top flask rest till the temperature goes down. Do not put the glass material into the water suddenly as this may cause the glass to break.

Transfer the coffee from the bottom flask to a cup and enjoy every sip of it.
